It cannot tell you where the carp will be sitting when you pull into the car park. Planning a short session or a full weekend
For a six-hour trip, most of your effort should go into getting a clean presentation near fish quickly and keeping disturbance low. A simple rig and a measured amount of bait make it easier to move. A 24-hour or weekend session gives you more time to recognise a pattern, but also needs better preparation for food, sleep, warmth and safe fish care after dark. Neither approach justifies putting every bit of bait in at the start. The opening feed is a starting point, while the reserve lets you react if the fish begin feeding confidently.
Wind, cloud and changing light can help you decide what to investigate, but do not apply lake advice blindly to a river or canal. Flow, towpaths, boat traffic and water levels introduce different decisions. Check the session checklists and the venue's current rules before travelling. A tackle or lighting problem is much easier to solve at home than in a dark swim.

How do I plan a carp fishing session?
Choose a realistic arrival time and the hours you can spend at the water, then check access and fishery rules. Use the weather and daylight as preparation, not a reason to choose a swim without looking for fish. The planner combines these timings with a cautious bait allowance, rig guidance and a checklist; change the plan if the fish show you something different on arrival.
How far ahead can I use the Session Planner?
The planner uses the five-day, three-hour OpenWeather forecast available through the site's existing key. It does not request the separate 16-day daily service. You can start within the short-range outlook and plan a longer session, but weather and bite scores are shown only where actual forecast data covers the trip. Forecast coverage may begin after arrival or end before departure.
Should I arrive before the best feeding period?
If the lake permits it, arrive with time to watch the water and prepare safely before a promising period. There is little benefit in rushing a cast into an unsuitable spot simply to meet a time on a screen. The suggested windows are relative indicators, not appointments that carp keep, and the fishery's opening hours always take priority.
How much bait should I take for a 24-hour session?
The quantity depends on the stock, number of rods and how the fish respond. This planner uses the same calculation as the bait calculator, with a smaller opening feed and bait held in reserve. Low stocks, short or mobile sessions and a selected cold-water condition favour a lighter approach. Forecast air temperature is never treated as a measurement of the water temperature.
Does a short session need night-fishing equipment?
It can. A six-hour session starting in the evening may include more darkness than a much longer summer day session. The planner checks the actual local sunrise and sunset against your hours, rather than deciding that only trips lasting 24 hours need lighting. Confirm permission to fish after dark and keep the route, net and mat clear before visibility falls.
What happens if the weather service is unavailable?
You can still create the practical parts of the plan: local daylight and moon information, bait quantities, rig guidance and the checklist. The weather indicator remains unavailable and no feeding window is invented. Check a current official forecast and warnings before travelling, particularly beside rivers, under trees or on exposed banks.
Can I save or print my carp fishing plan?
Yes. Save the latest choices and checklist on this device, copy a plain-text plan or print the results without the page navigation. Saved choices do not reserve a swim and are not stored in an account or on the CarpAnswers server. Restoring a plan does not automatically fetch weather: check the date and press Create session plan again for the latest available outlook.
Are the bite windows guaranteed or scientifically proven?
No. The weather score uses explicit angling assumptions and a small lunar contribution, not a database of catch outcomes. Solunar theory is not scientifically proven to predict carp captures. Water temperature, fish location, stocking, pressure from other anglers and feeding habits at the particular venue can all outweigh the indicator.
